Our Children's Ministry environments partner to develop authentic faith through growing relationships with God, themselves and others. We work together to ensure that each child experiences the wonder of God, discovers who God created them to be and develops a passion for serving others.
The children's ministry director is responsible to oversee the entire children's ministry to ensure a smoothly operating, safe and effective program. The director will recruit and train leaders who will touch children's lives with God's love, teach them God's Word and provide fellowship with God's people — laying a foundation that will direct children toward the things of God and become involved in the church.
This person will be directly accountable to the Senior Pastor and serve the children (Nursery -6th grade). The position is part-time. This person should possess the spiritual gifts of teaching, shepherding, administration and exhortation. They need to be a good communicator to children, have good organizational skills, and have the ability to motivate people.
ANTICIPATED TIME COMMITMENTS
1. Doing ministry/preparing for ministry: 25-30 hours a week
2. Weekly staff meeting
RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES
1. Cast vision for and lead those who serve in children's ministry
2. Participate in training opportunities as offered
3. Oversee and coordinate all aspects of the children's ministry, including preparing and managing an annual budget for children's ministry
4. Organize training and planning sessions for children's leaders/workers
5. Screen children's workers and leaders before placing them in ministry:
a) Have everyone complete an application and sign a release form for a police background check
b) Keep all applications and background checks in a file kept at the church office
6. Pray for the children and children's ministry workers
7. Direct Vacation Bible School & other special events like Jingle Jam
8. Supporting families of children as needed
QUALIFICATIONS
1. Spiritual Maturity: A strong, active faith in Jesus Christ, rooted in biblical principles, and aligned with the church's beliefs and mission
2. Experience: Previous experience working with children, especially in a ministry, educational, or non-profit setting, is required
3. Leadership Skills: Ability to lead, manage, and motivate volunteers and staff to support the ministry's vision and activities
4. Teaching Ability: Capable of effectively teaching biblical truths to children in creative and age-appropriate ways
5. Organizational Skills: Strong planning and organizational skills to coordinate events, curriculum, and communication with parents and staff
6. Interpersonal Skills: Excellent communication and relational skills to connect with children, parents, and volunteers
7. Passion for Children’s Ministry: A clear passion for nurturing children's spiritual growth and providing them with a safe, engaging environment
8. Teamwork: Ability to work collaboratively with other church leaders and departments
9. Education: A degree in Christian education, early childhood education, or a related field is often preferred, though not required
10. Background Check: Must pass a criminal background check and any other safeguarding requirements
